Enter Each Day with the Words of God

When he has brought out all his own, he goes on ahead of them, and his sheep follow him because they know his voice – John 10:4

As vulnerable, dependent children of God, we find much confidence and grace in following the voice of our Shepherd-King, Jesus.

I can a see a practical connection with this passage’s divine promise, and the daily time we spend with the Lord. As we arise each morning, we can hear the voice of our Saviour and follow His direction. We do this by reading His word, and by prayerful adoration, confession, thanksgiving and supplication. In this manner, we truly do follow our Shepherd into each and every day with confidence and joy. Can there be anything better?

How rich and regular is your time with the Lord? Do you see the significance of this gracious time, and who it is you meet with? He is the Holy One of Israel. The Creator and Sustainer. The Saviour of the world.

As you come to meet your Saviour in the newness of the morning, consider the depth and richness that you experience, and how He leads you through the day. His eternal words remain with you all the day long, especially as you prayerfully bring them to mind.

Read the passage below. Contemplate the significance of this for your daily time with the Lord.

Very truly I tell you Pharisees, anyone who does not enter the sheep pen by the gate, but climbs in by some other way, is a thief and a robber. 2 The one who enters by the gate is the shepherd of the sheep. 3 The gatekeeper opens the gate for him, and the sheep listen to his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. 4 When he has brought out all his own, he goes on ahead of them, and his sheep follow him because they know his voice. –John 10:1
