Christians are often described as “Children of God.” I think I brush over the beauty and depth of that sometimes.
This biblical claim is way more intimate than a generic reference to humanity at large.
1 John 3:1 says it so simply,
See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God!
He has lavished His love on us.
What manner of love, what perfect love, what sacrificial love, what eternal love, what unconditional love.
Why unconditional? It has to be. We were born dead in sin and outside of God’s favour. We are completely, and utterly, unable to do anything in and of ourselves to make peace with God, and escape the wrath to come.
Now, I want you to think about this…..
It’s one thing to escape deserved punishment, but when God draws us to Himself through Christ alone, we not only escape punishment, we become precious children of God, and heirs of an incorruptible, heavenly inheritance. We are no longer outside of God’s favour. We are inside. Inside the comfort and care of the Heavenly Father. Inside his eternal plans and sovereign ways.
Safe. Secure. Wanted.
Forever.
Consider that. The God of the Universe, full of majesty and glory and power, has you as His inheritance. You are His child, and no one can take you out of His hand.
In light of that truth, we have no one to fear, nothing to worry about and everything to live for.
We are Children of God – let’s live that way today……
