It’s fair to say that the Christian life can often feel like a crazy roller-coaster ride.
One day you feel you could fly like an angel, but the next, you’re flapping around in the dark valley of despair.
Up and down. Up and Down.
Sometimes we feel as bold as Peter jumping out of the boat, then other times, we’re weeping uncontrollably like he did when he disowned his Lord.
Perhaps you can relate to someone like Gideon, who wanted more and more confirmation from God.
Or Samson’s up and down relationship with his faith?
And what about David? He beheads Israel’s enemy, Goliath; and yet, later on, we see him losing his own head over Bathesheba – metaphorically speaking.
The list can go on. Noah, Abraham, Moses and Solomon. We have spoken about Peter. All of the disciples were confused and flustered at times.
We are just like those fractured Bible ‘heroes’ of time gone past. We love our God, we want to honour Him more, and then we give into our own desires.
There is only one person that never lost His focus. The sinless one. The perfect one. The Saviour of the world. Jesus.
We are altogether unlike Christ. And that is exactly how I like it. I can’t do it on my own. Whenever I try, I fail. Every. Single. Time.
But God doesn’t. Christ secured salvation on the cross. Work is complete. We now live in the resurrected power of Christ.
Next time you’re feeling down and out, remember, it is in “Him we live and move and have our being.” (Acts 17:28).
Look to Jesus and what He has done.
In His strength, you can jump out of boats – and still affirm your faith in Christ.
In His strength, you can behead your spiritual enemies – and keep your own head as well.
But only – in His Strength.
